New 3 track EP from Hype Williams. ‘Ooovrrr’ melts Drake’s vocals down to a syrupy slur and lays over a snappy lo-fi beat, heavy on the 1’s and 3’s, as some wavering synths play off each other in a haze. ‘Rescue Dawn III’ drags an early 90’s jungle bassline down to a snails pace. A super melted vocal refrain, a VHS quality synth line and hiss-drenched bass form a something that could loosely be referred to as ‘dub’. The b-side is an alternate take on Sade’s ‘The Sweetest Taboo’ – a beautiful version envisioned through the heroin haze that the lyrics evoke.
No group is absorbing and filtering pop culture quite like Hype Williams. A truly unique project.
